After three unexpected days away from running, this morning felt a little bit like Day 1 all over again.

I woke up at Nut Point Campground, packed up camp with the crew, and headed into La Ronge. Standing outside the Co-op, I was excited, nervous, and almost ready to start moving again.

Days 10 and 11: Rest Days... Sort Of

Distance: 0 km
Total Distance: 442.9 km
Location: Prince Albert to La Ronge region

The last two days were rest days.

Sort of.

After deciding to pause the run and get checked out by a specialist doctor at the hospital in Prince Albert, my dad and I made the trip South to Prince Albert.

It's about 320 kilometres, but when you're driving a truck loaded with a camper and enough gear to support a long run like this, it's not exactly a quick trip. The drive took us close to five hours.

The change of pace felt strange.

Day 9: Adventures Happen on Adventures

Well, this wasn't the update I expected to be writing.

The plan for Day 9 was simple: wake up, eat breakfast, and continue running south.

Instead, the day started with 0.9 kilometre run and ended with a 230-kilometre drive to La Ronge and a visit to the hospital.

Nobody panic.

It all started about 900 metres into the run. I wasn't feeling quite right, and after a short discussion with my dad, we decided it would be smart to get things checked out instead of trying to push through and hope for the best.

Jack and Joey rolled into camp first thing in the morning, complete with another truck to help support the adventure.

It was great to see familiar faces again. We were still sitting around with our coffee talking about yesterday's windstorm when suddenly it became a bit of a "hurry up and get moving" kind of morning.

I covered 53 km on day 4…but walked more than I would’ve liked.

Headwinds, Hills, and Amazing People

Today's run started with some of the toughest conditions so far.

The road surface was excellent, but a strong headwind followed us for most of the day.

Gusts reached nearly 50 km/h, and combined with the warmest temperatures we've seen so far, it made for a challenging day on the road.

I ran 60 Kilometres today (day 3 of this adventure) for a total of 165 kms so far.

The First Steps South: 45 Km

We started at 9:00 a.m. on the bank of the Fond du Lac River, the farthest north point we could reach. Next we went to Stony Rapids School where students welcomed me to their pancake breakfast, had posters made to celebrate the run, and did a big countdown to start the run! I even had some new friends to run alongside me for about 1 km!

I ran partway toward Black Lake, then we marked the spot and drove into the community to spend time at the school and meet the Band Chief and councillors.

Some amazing drummers sent us off when I started running. My brother, Matthew, had made some friends working in this area.

I’m so thankful the Dene community of Black Lake was willing to create such a beautiful send off!

In total, I ran 45 kilometers today.

Surprisingly, the 1041 km drive to Stony Rapids didn’t feel as daunting as I thought it would. It was beautiful the whole way north, and I’m already excited to see it all again on foot.
